Bring shorts, hat, sun-glasses, bathing suit, insect repellent, flashlight, sun block cream, tough shoes for walking, rubber slippers for the beach. The Barong Tagalog is the acceptable formal wear for men. Shorts or sleeveless shirts should never be worn when visiting churches, mosques or temples. Visitors are advised to bring sufficient amount of change in small bills or coins. Paying US Dollar / Peso cash are preferred (obviously and the best way!). We accept other major currencies as payment; please check with us before you arrive. US Dollar traveler's cheques are probably the safest way to carry money – you will need your passport with you when you come to pay with them. Credit cards are accepted; VISA, MASTERCARD. Business Hours Banks – 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday; Government agencies and offices – 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday; Private firms – 9am to 12nn Saturday; shops – 9am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. Most department stores stay open on Sundays and holidays. Tipping Bellhops expect a tip, as do waiters, taxi drivers, hairdressers, beauticians, and porters. The alternative is to fly to Manila and take a domestic flight to Cebu , or take a ferry. From the capital city flights to Cebu are offered several times a day. The boat trip takes about 20 hours, but sailing on a luxury liner through the Philippine archipelago is an adventure in itself. Tricycles (motorcycles with sidecars) are popular in outlaying areas and in suburbs, quiet notably within Mactan Island . Taxicabs are widely available. Health and Medicine No malaria in the area, but inoculations for Hep A, Typhoid, Polio and Tetanus are recommended, always check with your doctor. Bring high factor sun creams and insect repellent if you are prone to that type of thing, It's a rare occasion that you will need to put on more than shorts and a t-shirt. |
