The PADI Dive Master course is the first professional step on the PADI ladder. This course is unlike any of our other courses, as it gives you the opportunity to work with and assist your instructor during training. This will help you gain extended accident management and problem solving skills. You will be seen as a role model by recreational divers and learn the day-to-day operations of the dive industry.

This course is, run by our highly qualified instructors and is divided into 5 areas:

1. Water Skills

2. Stamina Tests

3. In Depth Diving Knowledge Development

4. Practical Assessments during actual PADI courses

5. Gain practical first hand experience of working within the recreational diving industry

COURSE OUTLINE

The course starts with your pre-course consultation followed by independent study of the PADI Dive Master Manual, and you should complete all the quizzes and knowledge reviews prior to your first formal training session. The manual also gives details of all the physical tests you will undertake and must pass during the course.

Formal training sessions include lectures, audio visual presentations, discussion sessions as well as confined water skills practice and assessments, Open Water skills practices and assessments, as well as assessments of your people and leadership skills when working along side the instructors during actual courses teaching real trainee divers.

It should be clearly understood that candidates are expected to be highly pro-active in their approach to this professional level course, personal commitment is essential and a willingness to become part of the team is paramount to getting the most from this course.

COURSE TIME TABLE

Due to the varied nature and the wide scope of the course content, combined with the necessity of linking it in with other courses to ensure candidates gain the maximum amount of interactive experience within the day-to-day operations of a working dive centre, timing and duration of the course will vary. However, you should expect to complete a minimum of 120 hours of actual participation spread over a period of time, as well as successful completion of the required physical performance requirements. We therefore recommend that you discuss your individual requirements with us.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

400 meter timed swim, non-stop.

15 minutes tread water, the last 2 minutes with hands held out of the water.

800 meter timed snorkel, wearing only a swimsuit, non-stop using only your fins, (no arm strokes).

100 meter tired diver tow wearing full scuba equipment non-stop, timed.

Execute the 20 basic water skills to a high standard, scored assessment.

Execute a simulated rescue of an unresponsive non-breathing diver at the surface, pass or fail assessment.

Survey and map a dive site.

NB. Where tests are either timed or scored there are minimum pass marks or times needed!

COURSE CONTENT

Practical and Theory examinations are held covering all aspects of the syllabus at various times throughout the course.

  • The Role and Characteristics of a PADI Divemaster.
  • Supervising general diving activities for certified divers.
  • Assisting with student divers in training.
  • Dive Theory introduction.
  • Decompression Theory and the Recreational Dive Planner.
  • Divemaster conducted programs.
  • Risk management.
  • The business of Diving.
  • Your diving career.

By the end of this course you will be expected to have logged a minimum of 60 dives prior to registration and certification.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING

  • Swim Suit
  • Towel
  • Academic knowledge reviews, and all manuals, etc.
  • Medical Statement
  • Proof of your current level of training
  • 4 passport-sized photographs

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you fail to achieve the required standards we will Endeavour to do everything in our power to help you achieve your goals. If there is a deviation from the course schedule because of self-induced reasons there will however be an additional fee applicable. This will only apply if clients are responsible for training delays.

The next step in your diving career is the Assistant Instructor program, preparing you for the step up to full Open Water Scuba Instructor!

PREREQUISITES

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Rescue Diver or equivalent level of training
  • A minimum of 20 logged dives
  • A Primary and Secondary First Aid certification from any recognized body completed within the last 24 months
